The DGN Pep Band performed with high energy, great musicianship and tremendous professionalism at today's NU vs UIC game in Evanston. From start to finish our students were "first class" in every way.

Special thanks to all of our students (and their families) who gave of their time during the Winter Break to create this special opportunity for our program. Great job!

If one ever wonders why/how the DGN Band functions at a high level, they need look no further than the dedication of our student leaders.  After a lot of volunteer hours and hard work during Semester 1, it was nice to kick-back and relax today at our annual Band Student Leaders Holiday Party.

Carnegie Hall Concert Prep Continues

United States Air Force Band Concert Master - and DGN Alumnus - Kristin Bowers was on campus today to rehearse the Scott McAllister clarinet concerto "Black Dog." Technical Sergeant Bowers will perform the work with the DGN Wind Ensemble at Carnegie Hall on March 2, 2015.

Also on campus today is Class of 2012 DGN alumnus Hannah Young (who will be accompanying the DGN Bands on harp at Carnegie Hall) as well as composer & conductor Don Owens (Northwestern University Professor Emeritus).

It was wonderful to welcome all of these special guests to campus today!

The Midwest Clinic - College Night for Instrumental Music Students

As you think about your future, are you considering majoring or minoring in music?  The Midwest Clinic (a professional conference of over 10,000 music educators from all over the world, and held each year in Chicago) invites instrumental music students to attend College Night on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at McCormick Place West in Chicago, Illinois from 5:30 - 7:00PM. College Night is FREE and open to the public.

College Night provides an opportunity for students to visit with representatives from the world’s leading collegiate and military music programs. It is a vital part of the clinic’s mission to showcase these outstanding institutions of higher learning at our annual conference. A tradition since 1988, The Midwest Clinic encourages all music educators to invite interested students to this important event. Students, parents, chaperones, and directors who wish to participate are not required to sign up or pay a registration fee to attend College Night. Please see the attached image for more information. Jazz Ensemble Swings at Chicago's Jazz Showcase!

Congratulations to the members of the DGN Jazz Ensemble on an exceptional performance tonight at Chicago's famed Jazz Showcase.

Founded in 1947, the Jazz Showcase has played host to every major figure in modern jazz history.  It was an honor for our DGN musicians to have the opportunity to perform on this stage and to open for Mark Colby and Frank Caruso.  Well done Jazz Ensemble!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DGN Jazz Ensemble @ The Jazz Showcase Monday Night!

The DGN Jazz Ensemble is making a return trip to Chicago's famed "Jazz Showcase" on Monday, November 24.  Beginning at 7:30 PM, the band will open for Mark Colby and Frank Caruso.

Tickets are $10 at the door.  The Jazz Showcase is located at 806 S. Plymouth Ct., Chicago, IL 60605.

We hope you will join us at the Jazz Showcase to support our DGN musicians and experience jazz inside one of the most iconic jazz clubs in the nation.

Giving Tree Shopping / Wrapping Day

Members of the DGN Band Board spent a good portion of the day shopping for those less fortunate and in need this holiday season.

DGN and Herrick Band students joined forces this evening in support of the Bloom's Angels Fundraiser / Herrick vs. Jefferson Basketball game.
