Gingerbread Festival and Tree Lighting #WeAreDGN #99Learns

Congratulations and thank you to the members of the DGN Trojan Marching Band for their spirited holiday performance at this evening's Gingerbread Festival and Tree Lighting in downtown Downers Grove!

Performance Status Update

We are still "GO" with the Village of Downers Grove for this afternoon's performance.  Please note the following:

- No wooden instruments should be used outside. Clarinet players who do not have access to a plastic clarinet should leave their instrument at home, but should attend and march their spot in the parade to the tree.

- Drum Line members are asked to bring 1 or 2 old towels with them. We will put the towels in the van in the Library parking lot, and then use them at the end of the parade to dry off the drums. (We will leave drum skirts on the instruments today.)

Leadership Team members assigned to help load equipment at 3 PM are asked to report to the Stadium Entrance.

See everyone at 3:45 in the DG Library Parking lot.  Arrive with your instrument and music out of case, storm coat and Santa Hat on, and ready to step-off!

Thank you for your efforts on this rainy day!

Gingerbread Festival Performance Update

We have been in contact with the Village of Downers Grove.  As of 1 PM the Gingerbread Festival performance is still "GO." A final decision, based on rain, will be shared by 3 PM.  Dress in layers under your storm coat.  Warm gloves are encouraged.  Don't forget the traditional Santa Hat or red knit hat.

Congratulations to the entire #MarchingIllini on a stunning performance at the 2015 #MacysParade. The Marching Illini was selected as the final band of the parade and had the honor of bringing Santa Claus into Herald Square for the grand finale.

@DGNBands alumni Jonathan Sheetz (clarinet) and Jennifer Vetrone (trumpet) performed this morning in NYC with the Marching Illini.  We are proud of you!

Happy Thanksgiving from @DGNFineArts and @BonfieldExpress

Thank you to our terrific student volunteers who contributed in many ways to the success of the annual Bonfield Express.  Our @DGNChoirs vocal duet (National Anthem) and @DGNBands Jazz Combo (finish line music) were spectacular!

Hundreds of runners and walkers added just a few extra steps to their route and participated in our first-ever #BangAGong4theArts Detour!  @DGNFineArts appreciates the ongoing support of Arts Education in our community!

DGN Welcomes Dr. Stephen Peterson - University of Illinois

The Downers Grove North High School Fine Arts and the DGN Bands were pleased and proud to welcome Dr. Steve Peterson to campus this afternoon.  Dr, Peterson is the recently appointed Director of Bands at the University of Illinois.

Dr. Peterson worked with the DGN Wind Ensemble on Percy Grainger's "Theme from Green Bushes," a work that the District 99 Honors Band will perform on tour this coming summer.  Dr. Peterson's workshop was both captivating and inspiring for our North High musicians, and lent insight into the opportunities that await students who may ultimately attend the University of Illinois.

Dr. Peterson will be in Elmhurst, IL this weekend serving as the Illinois Music Education Association District 1 Honor Band Guest Conductor this weekend.
